Founded by Jonathan Luckhurst in 2015 as a means to educate children about sustainable food production, Sea to Sky Botanics has evolved into a social business that implements food security projects for northern communities. Sea to Sky Botanics has stayed true to its roots and has also developed educational urban agriculture programs for the Alberta Motor Association’sSchool Garden Studio initiative.
Luckhurst's work in food sovereignty informs, anchors and guides his his approach to making art; his pragmatic, real-world experience in food security and land stewardship initiatives lends layers to his artworks that could not be achieved otherwise. As Luckhurst says, "I want artists to be drawn by the art, but discover something in the science. I want scientists to be drawn by the science, but discover something in the art. I want these works to be for everyone."
